ST JOHNS LAKE
St Johns is probably one of the best known lakes in the UK, fished by top anglers from around the country. There is a good head of carp with most over 20lb, over forty 30lb+, and seven over 40lb. St Johns is home to some familiar fish published in the media like, Big Plated, Small Plated, Box Common, and the Big Common. The lake has something for everyone, with shallows, gravel bars, plateaus, weed, and is a great way to increase a PB. Map details sourced in association with Carp Feed.

TOP TIPS WITH TOM MAKER
Take Plenty of Bait
Due to holding a large stock of carp and a good head of catfish, making sure you have plenty of bait with you is a must. My mix at Linear is fairly consistent, Krill or Manilla boilies (depending on the time of year), hemp and sweetcorn.
Check the Weather
Checking the weather before you fish is a really important thing to do and my swim choice is often dictated by what the weather is doing. For example, if the air pressure is low and there is a strong southerly blowing I will choose to fish the deeper end of the lake. Alternatively, if the air pressure is high and there is a northerly blowing I would look to tackle the shallower end of the lake.
Zigs
Having your Zig kit with you is essential, there is a large stock of fish in this lake and they’re not going to spend all of their time feeding on the lake bed. Even short 2-3ft Zigs could put you a few extra fish on the bank.
Solid Bags
Solid bags work very well on St.Johns as the fish can often shy away from big beds of bait, they tend to work particularly well at the start of the week when the fish have seen loads of bait over the weekend. Coupling 2.3mm pellets with a 12mm pop-up offers a great one bite tactic.
