THE ONLY WAY IS... ZIGS

16th June 2021

Hot weather and the deep water of the Essex Manor combine to make Zigs a devastating tactic!

In periods of hellishly hot weather, deep lakes tend to be a little bit tricky to unlock and often the only way of tempting a fish is to use Zigs. Little pieces of foam soaked in any of our soluble Bait Sprays make the perfect hookbait for curious, cruising carp as both Adam Francis and Grant Dilloway found during recent sessions on the Essex Manor.

Bait Sprays are a much lighter alternative, that easily absorb into your chosen hookbait, yet still pack the same punch as their thicker counterparts.

Adam revealed:

“I had a great trip last week, which could have easily been so different had I not used Zigs. I persisted throughout the session, feeding Krill Floaters throughout the session, with a couple of Zigs positioned amongst the freebies. The fish never seemed fully confident taking the baits, and so I decided to lower the hookbaits, foam soaked in Krill Bait Spray, to a foot below the surface.

“This worked a treat, as the cagy fish clearly couldn’t resist the unique morsels just below the surface. I ended up with three fish in total, the biggest was a fish known as The Bream Common at 42lb. The other two fish both went 33lb-plus, with one of them being from the much-sought after Aveley stocking. I was over the moon with the results and really happy that my change of tactics worked in the end.”

Also targeting the famous Essex venue, Grant said:

“I arrived on Friday after work and was faced with a very busy lake compared to the weekend previous. After multiple laps, I hadn’t spotted anything near the few remaining swims available. I decided to plot up in one of the central pegs and kept my eyes peeled for any signs of where they might be. With the odd show here and there in taken swims, it wasn’t until the following evening around 6pm, I finally found some carp in a swim that was vacated a couple of hours before.

“I immediately shot round to my peg, grabbed my rods and charged back round hoping the peg wasn’t taken already, knowing full well if anyone had spotted what I had, it wouldn’t take them long either! Luckily enough I managed to secure the peg, after going back and packing down I got back to the new area. There were blatant signs the carp were still in the area too which was a bonus!

“The fish were clearly in the upper layers because of the hot weather, and as such I had to use Zigs to be in with a chance. A mere 15 minutes after putting the rods out, I was away with a typical, finicky Zig bite and after an intense battle Baby Stella at 43lb was in my net. What a result, I was so happy and now have my eyes firmly set on Stella herself!”
