RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME

Jack Lamb makes the most of a few hour’s fishing, culminating in an old looking common.

The saying goes; five minutes in the right place is better than five hours in the wrong one, and this can of course be used in angling terms. No matter how short your session is, you should be able to create a chance for yourself, if you put a rig in front of a carp. Jack Lamb is well versed in tracking down carp on a limited timescale, and his most recent session involved just that!

Mulbz are based on an all-time classic flavour combination, accountable for singling out some of the UK’s largest carp.

Jack revealed:

“As with a lot of my angling, I didn’t really have much time at my disposal, however, I never let this put me off going, if I can get the location right, I’ve always got a chance no matter how short the session.

“Arriving at the lake, my first job was to get walking and find some carp. It didn’t take long, as I soon found some of the lake’s stock sat warming themselves in a corner, where the sun was hitting all morning. After watching for a short while, I saw a few shows in the area as well, so I decided to set up there to start with.

“Once I had my gear in the swim, I could see that a lot of the fish were in the upper layers, and the air pressure was high, so with that in mind I decided to put out two rods on Zigs. My third rod was placed next to a snag in the margins, this was in shallow water, where I had seen a few fish milling in and out of, it looked good for a bite. Rig wise, I went for a simple Ronnie rig, armed with a Mulbz pop-up, this was fished as a single hookbait, hoping to pick up a quick bite.

“The margin rod had only been in the water a matter of minutes before the tip hooped round and the alarm let out a few beeps. I was attached to a very angry carp and after a lengthy battle I slipped the net under what looked like a good common. On the scales, it spun the dial to a very pleasing, 27lb 12oz! Not bad for just 4-hours angling.”
