NEW WATER SUCCESS

Adam Francis hits the road running on the notoriously tricky Carthagena fishery with three incredible carp.
Fishing any water for the first time is an exciting prospect, and when you combine this with the perfect venue in mind, it’s what most anglers dream of! Carthagena is one such venue that ignites the fire in many anglers’ hearts and many would love a ticket on the exclusive complex. One lucky angler who has just that is Adam Francis, who recently reported back on his experiences from the first few sessions on the main syndicate lake., where he has seen some recent success.
Free amino acids flood out from your baited area, which help draw carp into your swim and keep them there for longer.
Adam continues:
“With several weeks leave booked to coincide with the start of autumn, I could not wait to get started on my new water, the lovely, but tricky Carthagena syndicate, a complex that is home to some of the very best carp in the land. I also had the plan to fish the last part of my Essex Manor ticket during the winter months too.
“I started on Carthagena with an open mind, going on what I saw and experienced first-hand, rather than any preconceived ideas. It became apparent several swims were very popular, and for good reason, with the start of the autumn being very unseasonable, the fish were using these areas for long periods of time!
“Following a predictably quiet first couple of sessions, simply slotting in to get a feel for the venue and its stock, I opted to keep a very close eye on the more neglected zones which were frequently unoccupied, and sure enough, some daily subtle shows and disturbance were to be seen for anyone watching closely during the hours of darkness. With a two-rod rule, come the quiet afternoon periods, I went through the motion of chopping and changing hookbait options and presentations for the coming night, all of which I had utmost faith in. But these Carthagena carp are incredibly sly at the best of times, so I needed to have total confidence. I settled on a low Multi rigged pop-up and a Slip D with a wafter.
“Whilst on fish, and on relatively clean silty areas, my low Multi rig presented with a white Mulbz pop-up produced three bites during this period of angling, even with my banker originally being the wafter / slip d presentation. This just goes to show it’s worth using different presentations at the start of a new campaign. The rigs were fished over small beds of mixed sized Bloodworm pellet, crushed, crumbed and whole Krill and Manilla Active, with a few handfuls of the standard boilies glugged in Pure Calanus and matching Cloudy liquids.
“Without rambling on too much, I’ve had an enjoyable few weeks, with plenty of fishless hours clocked up in-between my bites, but each uneventful part helps me build a picture and general plan of approach for the coming seasons on this addictive venue, and I really can’t wait to catch some more of the incredible stock of old carp!”
