Thirties Brace Tops Four-Fish Hit!
26th September 2016
Jason Edmunds wasted no time in getting among the fish on a recent session – hooking one within half an hour!
The 21-year-old tackle shop worker was fishing a small southern venue, which is home to some truly huge carp. With a four-night session ahead of him, Jason set about finding suitable clear areas among the prolific weed growth, upon which to set his traps.
After identifying clear spots in the margins and at 40 yards, Jason baited with a mixture of whole and chopped Manilla and Krill freezer baits, soaked in Pure Krill Liquid. Despite losing the first fish that he hooked after just 30 minutes, Jason continued undeterred and picked up a further four bites during his session.
He varied his hook bait choice, using white Signature pop-ups, pink Signature wafters and Manilla pop-ups, to suit the lake bed conditions. He presented his baits on rigs that featured Korda Choddy hooks in size four, tied to ESP Tungsten Loaded Soft coated braid. Due to the weedy conditions and big carp, Jason spooled up with 20lb Tiger Line.
The margin trap that had produced the lost bite was soon sprung again, resulting in a welcome upper double. His longer spot, which was a bar rising from surrounding weed, produced two fish of 32lb 8oz and 27lb and a clay-bottomed hole in the weed proved almost as good, accounting for the biggest fish of the session at 37lb 12oz.
