The South African duo Jono and Lee update us with their results from a summer campaign on the local syndicate

Tom Clark adds another mega common to his album, this time from Embryo’s South Ings Syndicate.
Tom has got his hands on some of our Manilla Active recently and with the days drawing in, has started a small winter campaign on Embryo’s most northerly complex, South Ings. Being much closer to his home and logistically easier to target with the dark evenings upon us.
This is what he had to tell us about his recent overnighter:
“Getting a job finished early meant an opportunity opened up for me to get a night on the bank, taking advantage of the mega weather. The Embryo ponds are just up the road for me, so I’ve decided to spend the time I get over winter down there to try for some of the better commons that reside within.
“By the time I had got sorted at home and got down to the lake, I was against the clock for daylight hours, but I managed to get my kit sorted and all three rods out just on dark. Opting to fish off the back of the strong wind meant I could get a kilo of Manilla Active and standard Manilla mixed with some hemp easily over my spots by hand.
“Within a few hours I had my first take which turned out to be an upper-double mirror but getting the rod back on the spot proved to be a bit of a nightmare with the strong winds and driving rain. In the end, I got the drop I wanted then settled back into my bag.
It wasn’t until just before first light that I received the next take but after a strong powerful fight in the margins, I slipped my net under a chunky common. I never realised which fish it was until I had it on the mat. As the needle flew past the 30lb mark, and settled on 31lb 8oz, I knew that the Box Common was well and truly ticked off the hit list!”
