Colossal Christchurch Capture for Mark Litchfield
6th November 2018
Mark is definitely no stranger to the Linch Hill complex, so it’s no surprise that he knows how to catch a fish or two. His latest visit to venue saw him tackling Christchurch, where he topped a three fish catch with the lake’s largest resident!
When we spoke to Mark about his capture, this is what he told us: “With my spot having already produced two fish including a stunning upper-thirty mirror, I knew it had potential for another bite. The spot itself was a small hole in the weed where I had seen fish showing and fizzing at the start of my session.
I’d been fishing with small 12mm Peach & Pepper pop-ups inside solid bags and once I had a fresh bag on the spot I topped it up with some 12mm Manilla boilies and a good helping of matching 4mm pellets soaked in Cloudy Manilla Liquid, leaving me very confident for the night ahead.
With fish giving me liners and showing over the spot in the night I grew more and more confident, but it wasn’t until 7:30am the following morning that I received a few bleeps from the alarm. Upon inspection the line was bow sting tight and the fish was clearly solid in the weed, so in the attempt of freeing the fish I slowly walked backwards and up the bank to slightly higher ground.
Luckily, I managed to ease the fish out of the weed and made sure that I kept it moving. What followed was a ponderous yet spirited fight and when I finally netted the fish what I saw was bigger than anything I had ever caught before.
The fish was soon recognised as the lake’s largest resident, Scar, and once on the scales it was confirmed as a new PB of 49lb 7oz!”
