Adam Penning Checking In
15th May 2018
Adam Penning has had a successful past few months on a multitude of different waters whilst deploying different tactics.
When checking in with Mr Penning regarding his fishing over the past few months this is what he told us: “Throughout the course of April I dedicated my time to the North Lake on the ever popular Yateley complex. One session in particular was very kind to me, I managed three bites topped by an amazing looking mirror that tipped the scales at 34lb 12oz. However, the highlight of the month had to by this ancient looking 38lb mirror. This was stalked over a handful of Elips pellets positioned over the top of some fizzing fish sifting through the silt. The bite came around 45-minutes later and saw for an insane battle, to emerge victorious I had to wade out to a nearby island.
My next encounter with a carp came during a visit to a new water that I hadn’t even planned to fish; but after finding numerous fish on the surface I couldn’t help myself, I quickly ran back to the van for my surface kit and a bag of Krill Floaters. Within a few short, manic hours I landed a total of four fish, all of which were dark, majestic commons.
After that spell of action it was time to return to the North Lake, but due to the lake being closed for spawning I had to rethink my plans. I decided to head to the Bayeswater Syndicate. Having not seen the lake since last October I found the odds stacked against me, as I only had the one night to get amongst the carp. Without hesitating I introduced some Elips pellets along the margin where I had found some patrolling carp, once the fish were clear of the zone I added trimmed Krill wafter hookbaits to the swim. The next couple of hours brought me two takes topped by an amazing 37lb mirror. This capture was notable on two levels; firstly the fish had previously only recorded three captures, secondly this was only the second fish of the year to have fallen to a bed bait as opposed to Zigs. So to have bagged two off the bottom was amazing!”
